Source of Life Ministries is truly “beginning a new chapter” in our ministry!
We have two high school graduates starting college. It will be clear to you as you read their stories that Almighty God has been going before our students preparing the way!
As Clauder has sought the Lord over the past several years, God has produced an intense desire within him to become part of the staff of Source of Life Ministries. Clauder doesn’t allow one day to pass without talking about his future at the children’s home, what he would like to achieve in the home, and the way he wants to help Papi Jacques in the work he is doing. He decides every day to pray for the home, for every ministry partner, for the staff, and for the children; he doesn’t forget the leader of the ministry, Jacques Merine and his whole family.
For several years, Clauder has been “knocking on doors,” preparing and waiting for God to open the right door for him. The US Embassy denied him a visa to attend a US college (sadly common), but God already had a miracle in the making since 2013.
“𝗔 𝗺𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗿𝘁 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘄𝗮𝘆, 𝗕𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗢𝗥𝗗 𝗱𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗰𝘁𝘀 𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽𝘀.” Proverbs 16:9
Several months ago, Papi Jacques asked Sherry (SLM editor) to research colleges in Haiti. She contacted a long-term missionary and was told the two best colleges in Haiti; they are the only colleges in Haiti whose credits are recognized internationally.
Vaguely remembering that she had seen a branch/satellite of one of the colleges (Université Notre Dame d’Haïti) the first time she visited Haiti in 2013, Sherry began looking online and located it in Jacmel, which is west of our children’s home and not near the main dangerous locations of gangs.
The next step was to contact a godly young man Sherry met while he was still in high school on her first trip to Haiti in 2013. Getreau now lives in Jacmel, and he confirmed that the college was two minutes from where he lives. Getreau has helped Clauder every step of the way! First he gathered information, took pictures of the college brochures and sent them. Anything that Clauder needed to know, Getreau was willing to find out. When Clauder went to the college for his entry exam, Getreau opened his home for Clauder to spend the night. Finally he helped Clauder find a house to rent. We praise God for all the help Getreau has given to make this a smooth transition!
There is another AMAZING story of how Wood became a student at his college.
Wood is attending Université d’Etat d’Haiti. The State University of Haiti is one of Haiti’s most prestigious institutions of higher education. Its main location is in Port-au-Prince, but we recently learned there is a branch of the college also in Jacmel.
The origins of the college date to the 1820’s when colleges of medicine and law were established. In 1942, the various faculties merged into the University of Haiti. It’s very difficult to be accepted into this college, but God had a plan for Wood.
Wood came to know about the university because a friend of his used to tell him about it. The friend told him that it is one of the largest law schools in the southeast because it is affiliated with the largest entity in the nation.
In order to be accepted by the school, Wood went to the university to participate in a competition among 1000 students. The best 180 were chosen. Among the 180 best, Wood was one of them! That allowed him to enter the university with most of his tuition covered.
Do you agree?
It is a very exciting season for Source of Life as we enter a new chapter in our ministry! It’s truly a time of transition! Two of our young men have begun their college journeys to learn skills to use in their futures. We have seen the hand of God at work on behalf of both Clauder and Wood.
Although Clauder and Wood are going to different colleges, the colleges are both located in the historic town of Jacmel. There are no dormitories, so Source of Life is renting a house for them. This requires extra expenses because of paying rent, utilities, furnishing the house, and transportation.
If God prompts your heart to help with college tuition or the rental house, please contact us and let us know how you will be able to help!
